The Nevada Camera Club 2012 Annual Electronic Image Competition exhibition opening, artists' reception and multimedia presentation will take place at the Las Vegas Clark County Library District Whitney Library on Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. A multimedia presentation of all competition entries will be shown. Exhibition prints made from the first place entries in each category will be displayed in the gallery along with an exhibition of prints by Nevada Camera Club Photographer of the Year, Susan Webb.

NCC Program Presentation by John Williams on June 8, 2012
The Nevada Camera Club June 2012 Program Meeting features a presentation by underwater photographerJohn Williams. He will present his program, Photographing the Water World, in which he shares his tips, techniques and equipment selection. John will show his underwater landscapes and sea life photographs from a vast variety of spectacular locations around the world including Palau, Northern Mariana Islands, Hawaiian Islands, Fiji, Australia, Ecuador, Galapagos, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Bahamas, Cayman Islands and the California coast. John is a certified open water scuba diver and a master instructor for the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). Scuba diving and underwater photography are John's recreational passions spanning more than 25 years. In business, John is the President of Yesco, LLC. His company is the provider of custom signs and electronic displays seen everywhere around Las Vegas and the surrounding area.

NCC Program Presentation by Gary W. Potts on May 11, 2012
The Nevada Camera Club May 2012 Program Meeting features a presentation by Gary W. Potts. He will present his program, Photographic Judging: Warts and All, in which he dispels some of the myths about judging and judges. He provides tips and suggestions for the improvement of competition images and the improvement of judging. Although mostly subjective, judging can be done in a concise, professional and non-offensive manner. Recent published work on photographic judging will be included in the presentation along with the showing of selected award winning images from Photographic Society of America PSA-recognized International Exhibitions of Photography. Gary's program presentation is candid, lively, informative and directed toward all photographers regardless of their level of photographic achievement.
Gary Potts began his interest in photography at the age of 14 when hired to work part time at a camera store in Bedford, Indiana. He went on to become the photo editor for the Purdue University yearbook in 1968 and he was forever hooked on the art and science of photography. He earned his BSIE and MSIE degrees from Purdue University. Gary is now an Adjunct Professor in the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration; University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Gary has been a Photographic Society of America member since 1979. He actively participates in PSA-recognized International Exhibitions in which his photographs have received hundreds of exhibition acceptances. Gary's International Exhibition achievement has earned him multiple PSA Star Ratings, publication in the PSA annual Who's Who in Photography and earned him the PSA Recognition of Photographic Achievement PPSA title.
Gary joined Nevada Camera Club after moving to Las Vegas from Indiana in 2003. He was named Nevada Camera Club Photographer of the Year in 2009. Gary is a frequent judge and image evaluator at Nevada Camera Club Monthly Competitions. His service to the club and photographic achievement earned him the Nevada Camera Club Horizon Award and a Life-Time Membership in NCC. Gary currently serves Nevada Camera Club as Vice President and Executive Board Member.

NCC Program Presentation by Robert O'Toole on April 13, 2012
The Nevada Camera Club April 13, 2012 Program Meeting features a presentation by nature and wildlife photographer Robert O'Toole. He will present his program, A Journey Through the World of Wildlife Photography in Alaska, in which he communicates the experience of photographing in Alaska, the importance of knowing the subject and how to have fun while photographing. Robert will share the latest techniques, equipment, camera set-ups and shooting strategy. His techniques will help everyone to be better prepared for capturing wildlife action anywhere in the world.
Award winning professional photographer Robert O'Toole was named American Bald Eagle Foundation Photographer of the Year in 2008. His vertical banking Bald Eagle image was recognized as Highly Commended in the BBC Wildlife Magazine 2006 competition. Robert has been a professional photographer for more than 20 years. He has worked as a commercial and advertising photographer and now specializes in nature and wildlife photography. An accomplished photographic instructor, Robert has lead photography workshops both internationally and in the United States for the past six years. NCC Program Presentation by Tyler Stableford on February 10, 2012
The Nevada Camera Club February Program Meeting features a presentation by Tyler Stableford, Canon USA Explorers of Light Group Member. Tyler will present his Capturing The Dramatic Moment program in which he takes the audience behind the scenes of his latest assignments, from exploring rare ice caves to documenting the dangerous lives of underground coal miners. He will also screen his award winning short film "The Fall Line." A teacher at heart, Tyler reveals his secrets to capturing the elusive dramatic moment.
Tyler Stableford is an award winning adventure photographer and filmmaker who has earned an international clientele. Tyler has won numerous awards from Photo District News, the International Photography Awards, Communication Arts, American Photo and National Geographic Traveler. Men's Journal named him one of the seven "World's Greatest Adventure Photographers." He and his staff volunteer to shoot at least one week each year for nonprofit organizations. Tyler is a Canon USA Explorers of Light Group Member as well as an ambassador for Adobe Systems and the SanDisk Extreme Team. Tyler is a graduate of Dartmouth College. He lives in the Colorado Aspen Valley with his wife, Megan, and children Annabelle and Sam.

NCC Program Presentation by JoMar Alwes & Leslie Gertie on January 13, 2012
The Nevada Camera Club January 2012 Program Meeting features a presentation by JoMar Alwes and Leslie Gertie in which they present their program, JoMar Alwes & Leslie Gertie Shed a Little Light on the Dark Continent - Africa. Leslie and JoMar will show their best photographs from three weeks on safari in Kenya and Tanzania in 2008 and over a month on safari in Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa and Uganda in 2011. Leslie and JoMar will also share the process they went through to plan these trips and discuss what photographers need to know when going on a safari in Africa. The presentation also includes short videos produced by Leslie from a hot air balloon ride over the Namib desert, a helicopter ride over Victoria Falls and a close encounter with a large mountain gorilla.
Growing up as an "army brat", Leslie Gertie moved frequently with her family to various locations around the world including Cambodia while she was in grade school and Thailand while she was in high school. Until 1973 when Leslie arrived in Las Vegas, she had never resided in any one place longer than three years. Leslie has been employed in the Clark County Public Works Department as a construction inspector for the last 19 years. In recent years, Leslie has pursued her photographic interest through travel, hiking and camping in a variety of unique locations including Alaska, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Africa.
JoMar Alwes grew up on a dairy farm in Illinois and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois. He served in the Navy during the Viet Nam War as the Diving Officer and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Officer aboard the USS Coral Sea (CVA-43) aircraft carrier. For personal recreation, JoMar has hiked over 1,000 miles within the Grand Canyon and has led a backpack trip from Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite National Park across the Sierra Nevada Mountains to Devils Post Pile near Mammoth Lakes. In 2001, JoMar hiked Mount Kilimanjaro and reached the 19,341 foot Kibo summit. He then spent a week tent camping on safari in the Serengeti and other parks in Tanzania and then a week on safari in Kenya. JoMar recently retired as a right-of-way agent from the City of North Las Vegas.

NCC Program Presentation by Jerry Ward on November 11, 2011
The Nevada Camera Club November 2011 Program Meeting features a presentation by Canon USA Professional Market Specialist, Jerry Ward. In this presentation, Jerry focuses on getting the most out of Canon cameras. As a professional photographer, Jerry will be discussing how being comfortable with the camera, flash and software used, no matter what brand camera or model, photographers will be able to create the images that they want. Although this presentation is illustrated using Canon equipment, it is applicable to all photographers, not just Canon camera users.
Jerry Ward has been a professional photographer for thirty-three years and has worked for Canon USA for eight years. He worked as a staff photographer at Tulane University for almost fifteen years while freelancing for his personal clients including Sports Illustrated, Newsweek, Marriott, Hilton, Getty, USA Today and numerous major newspapers. A photographic generalist, Jerry's skills are mostly in sports, commercial, advertising and photojournalism although he does find time to photograph some weddings and portraits each year to keep up with the ever changing industry. Over the past decade or so, much of Jerry's freelance work has been directed toward food photography. Jerry is also a qualified photography and digital imaging expert witness in the US Federal Court System. NCC Program Presentation by Douglas Walsh on October 14, 2011
The Nevada Camera Club October 2011 Program Meeting features a presentation by nature and wildlife photographer, Douglas Walsh. He will present his program, Essentially Wild Life - Where How And When, in which he shares his personal inspiration, insights, tips and techniques for photographing extremely active wildlife. Included in Doug's presentation is a showing of his outstanding photographs of eagles, gannets, puffins, terns, horses and landscapes.
Douglas Walsh is a retired commercial airline jet pilot who has channelled his time and energy into pursuing excellence in nature and wildlife photography. Although his large and rapidly growing portfolio of photographs is diverse, his primary inspiration is photographing wildlife in remote, cold weather locations. Gallery Exhibition Public Reception: Nevada Camera Club Exhibition, Juried 2011
The Nevada Camera Club Exhibition, Juried 2011 artists' reception will take place at the Clark County Library on Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM. The exhibit features Nevada Camera Club members' photographs selected for exhibition by an independent panel of photographic art judges. The public is invited and admission is free.

NCC Program Presentation by Ben Willmore on September 9, 2011
The Nevada Camera Club September 2011 Program Meeting features a presentation by internationally renowned Photoshop guru, Ben Willmore. He will present his program, Shooting for Photoshop, in which he explains why photographers should be thinking in advance about Photoshop while in the field making their exposures. NCC Program Presentation by Gary W. Potts on August 12, 2011
The Nevada Camera Club August 2011 Program Meeting features a presentation by Gary W. Potts. He will present his program, Infrared Photography: The Invisible Spectrum?, in which he details infrared photography, discusses the differences between using an IR converted camera and using filters on a stock camera and describes the IR process from image capture to the final result with various software alternatives. Gary's presentation includes a display of his award winning infrared photographs.
Gary Potts began his interest in photography at the age of 14 when hired to work part time at a camera store in Bedford, Indiana. He went on to become the photo editor for the Purdue University yearbook in 1968 and he was forever hooked on the art and science of photography. He earned his BSIE and MSIE degrees from Purdue University. Gary is now an Adjunct Professor in the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration; University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Gary has been a Photographic Society of America member since 1979. In recent years, Gary has actively participated in PSA-recognized International Exhibitions in which his photographs have received more than 180 exhibition acceptances. Gary's International Exhibition achievement has earned him PSA Star Ratings and publication in the PSA annual Who's Who in Photography.
Gary joined Nevada Camera Club after moving to Las Vegas from Indiana in 2003. Gary was named Nevada Camera Club Photographer of the Year in 2009. He is a frequent judge and image evaluator at Nevada Camera Club Monthly Competitions. His service to the club and photographic achievement earned him the Nevada Camera Club Horizon Award and a life time membership in NCC.

NCC Program Presentations by Terry Greenberg & Janice Wendt on July 8, 2011
The July 8, 2011 Nevada Camera Club Program Meeting features presentations by Terry Greenberg and Janice Wendt. Terry Greenberg will cover choosing gloss versus watercolor media, how to download profiles, print preservation and basic color management. Janice Wendt will present her program, ReCapture Your Vision, demonstrating re-touching techniques that bring out and convey the "alive" feeling, mood and inspiration in the captured image. She teaches getting the most out of workflow, optimizing raw images, noise reduction techniques, global adjustments versus targeted adjustments, selective enhancements, bringing out detail, applying traditional techniques, black and white images from color capture and creating a style through retouching.
Terry Greenberg is the Western Regional Sales Manager for Ilford America, Inc., distributing photo quality media and other consumables for both inkjet printing and color photographic processes. Prior to joining Ilford America, Terry was a digital wide format specialist in southern California where he worked with some of the regions largest service bureaus, design houses and commercial printers. He has extensive knowledge in color management, ink jet papers and ink jet printers. He is an avid photographer who enjoys nature photography.
Janice Wendt is the Education and Training Manager for Nik Software Inc. She spends much of her time creating new educational materials that cover digital capture and the workflow process. Janice offers a practical view of retouching that features alternative time saving techniques for both the professional and beginning photographer. She is an experienced commercial and portrait photographer with over 30 years of experience. Her photographic and retouching work can be found in leading photographic magazines. Janice's speaking accomplishments include the Professional Photographers of America Imaging USA Annual Convention, Santa Fe Workshops, Maine Media Workshops, Palm Beach Photographic Center, West Coast School, NECCC Photography Conference and Photographic Society of America International Conference of Photography.

NCC 2011 Annual Electronic Image Competition Exhibition Opening
The Nevada Camera Club 2011 Annual Electronic Image Competition exhibition opening, artists' reception and multimedia presentation will take place at the Las Vegas Clark County Library District Whitney Library on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. A multimedia presentation of all competition entries will be shown. Exhibition prints made from the first place entries in each category will be displayed in the gallery along with an exhibition of prints by Nevada Camera Club Photographer of the Year, Douglas Walsh. The public is invited and admission is free. The exhibition continues through October 18, 2011.

NCC Program Presentation by Mollie Isaacs & Mary Lindhjem on May 13, 2011
The May 13, 2011 Nevada Camera Club Program Meeting features a presentation by Mollie Isaacs and Mary Lindhjem. They will present their program, Silence The C.R.I.T.I.C.. The basic theme of the presentation is to finely hone your photographic skills while always striving to improve and taking delight in what you are presently creating.
Mollie Isaacs is a professional photographer who specializes in nature and macro photography as well as portraiture of children and families. She has photographed many famous faces including Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, jazz musician Wynton Marsalis and actress Meryl Streep. She studied with Ansel Adams, Joyce Tenneson, and others. Mollie is a fourteen time recipient of the Kodak Gallery Award. Her work is in the Permanent Collection of the International Photography Hall of Fame and has been exhibited at Epcot Center in Disney World.
Mary Lindhjem is a professional free-lance photographer who specializes in nature and wildlife photography. Her travels have taken her to Africa, Alaska, Costa Rica and Europe. She has taught photography at the college level and has taught Photoshop and Lightroom to a variety of individuals and groups throughout the United States and abroad. Her fine art photography has been shown in several galleries and her images have been published in several books and magazines.

NCC Program Presentation by Richard C. Heckendorf on April 8, 2011
The April 8, 2011 Nevada Camera Club program meeting features a presentation by Richard C. Heckendorf. Rich will present his program "A Potpourri Of Photography In Four Parts" in which he displays a vast variety of his images recorded from his earliest days as a photographer through the modern day. The images communicate his personal perspective of photography and include photographs of flowers, critters up close and humorously warped photographs.
Richard Heckendorf began feeding his intense interest in photography after joining the Nevada Camera Club in 1985. Over time, Rich became a skilled darkroom worker and later successfully transitioned to computer post processing. As his passion for photographic learning and implementation grew, his spirit of sharing his knowledge with others also grew and was extended to everyone he met who showed an interest in photography. He has served Nevada Camera Club and its members by leading photography field trips, chairing the Beginners Photography Specific Interest Group, judging competitions and evaluating photographs. His exceptional contribution of service to the photographic community and his own photographic achievement earned him the Nevada Camera Club Horizon Award and a life time membership in NCC.

The February 11, 2011 Nevada Camera Club Program Meeting features a presentation by Martin Tyner, founder and CEO of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation. Martin will present a program about birds of prey, including where and how to photograph them. He is bringing a golden eagle, a hawk and a falcon. Program attendees are invited to bring a camera and photograph the birds. Martin's presentation includes information about the Southwest Wildlife Foundation's rescue of sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife and their rehabilitation and return to the wild. Nevada Camera Club Awards 2010 Photographer of the Year
Nevada Camera Club names Douglas Walsh as the recipient of the prestigious NCC 2010 Photographer of the Year Award. Each year, the Nevada Camera Club member who accumulates the highest total merit award points earned in NCC Monthly Competitions and NCC Sanctioned Competitions is named as the Photographer of the Year.
